Located in Aquitaine, Bordeaux is an important city of South-West of France which, through its history, never ceased to forge its strong personality. Often the city was in the heart of major events of the French History.
The city is dissociated as of antiquity. A first small Gallic city was founded in the 3rd century BC. It quickly became a trade counter under the Roman supervision. The site developed until the 5th Century AC when many and various invasions came to balance its prosperity. Bordeaux recovered quietness in the 7th Century.
Under the reign of Aliénor of Aquitaine, the city became English and flourishing thanks to the trade of wines with England. The city became French again in 1453, year which marks the end of the One hundred Year old war.
The city was again at the height of its fame during the 17th and 18th centuries thanks to its harbor and as a trade counter. The city developed with trades wines, sugar and slaves.
Today Bordeaux is the world capital city of wines. Its vineyards are worth touring as much as the city center.
